PHORMIUM Yellow Wave

PHORMIUM Yellow Wave

Phormium ‘Yellow Wave’ is a striking, evergreen New Zealand flax grown for its bold, arching, strap-like leaves with vibrant yellow and green variegation, adding strong, year-round structure to borders, contemporary plantings and coastal gardens. It performs best in full sun but will tolerate light shade, and prefers fertile, well-drained soil that does not sit wet in winter. Water well until established; thereafter it copes with dry spells. In Ireland it is generally frost hardy in mild areas; provide protection from severe or prolonged frost and shelter from cold, drying winds. Excellent as an architectural focal point and equally effective in large containers or mixed plantings where dependable foliage colour and texture are needed.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
